What We Love About Universal City
Just outside San Antonio is the mid-sized community of Universal City. In 1928, building began in the area for the Randolph Air Force Base. With it came the city that we know and love today. At the north gate of Randolph Field is where it all began. Randolph initiated formal operations in 1931, and a gas station was implemented. Like that, Universal City was born. Its namesake honors the air force base, meant to denote “the universal importance” of the base. For the three decades after Universal City’s loose establishment, the population remained small. By 1960, the town still had under 1,000 residents despite housing booms occurring in many neighboring areas at the same time. In 1963, the Air Force Manpower Personnel Center of Washington, D.C. transferred to the base. With this large growth in base population, Universal City began being accepted as a “real” city.
In 1971, the city got its first Post Office, which was necessary to provide mail services to the now 7,500 residents of Universal City. Through the city now ran Pat Booker Road, which provided all commercial thoroughfare of the city. While diverse, Universal City’s population is composed mainly of retired service people or active military members living off base. Today, Universal City has over 18,000 residents – a huge jump from the population just fifty years ago. This city is known for their community events, gatherings, and public establishments, including library story times, coloring therapy, National Night Out, and the Universal City Pumpkin Patch. Above all else though, Davis Law Group appreciates Universal City for its lovely residents. We couldn’t be more honored to serve the people here, standing by their side through some of life’s greatest challenges.
