What We Love About Selma
Located along the outskirts of the greater San Antonio area is the small town of Selma. Selma began as a settlement. In the early 1800s, German pioneers founded a series of towns along the Cibolo Creek, and Selma was one of them! In 1849, Selma began to flourish as the Harrison and McCulloch Stagecoach Stop was created. With the freight stop addition, passengers and goods alike were capable of being transported between the communities of central, south, and east Texas. Selma had an influx of people, attracting a large population of German and Polish immigrants moving to Texas. The developing community became a melting pot, and it wasn’t long before the town needed to grow. Selma added general stores, cotton gins, blacksmiths, saloons, and schools, setting the stage for all that Selma was to become. During the early 1900s, Selma faced a population decline, resulting in the closing of their post office.
In 1940, the community of Selma was only one hundred people. However, in 1964, something big happened that transformed the city: it became incorporated. Following the incorporation of Selma, the city encountered tremendous growth. Businesses sprouted along Selma’s Old Austin Road, now known as Interstate 35 that runs between the Austin and San Antonio corridor. Just a mere five square miles, Selma now has a population of over 6,000 which resides between the three counties of Bexar, Comal, and Guadalupe. Among all the history that Selma has, Davis Law Group’s favorite part still remains the people. We’re honored to serve the community of Selma and all those who live here, representing them through some of life's greatest challenges.
