What We Love About Houston Heights
Just outside the city of Houston lies the northwest neighborhood of Houston Heights. Houston Heights began during the 1890s, alongside much of Texas’ suburban areas. As towns grew into cities and cities grew into metropolitan areas, Houston’s nearby Houston Heights offered the perfect environment for those seeking a quieter place near an exciting city. In 1886, Oscar Martin Carter brought to Houston the vision of Houston Heights. This self-made millionaire had dreams of a planned community where entrepreneurs and working people could live, all with the priority of health and safety. Situated 25 feet above downtown Houston, Houston Heights is composed of sandy soil, rich vegetation, fully-grown trees, water sources, and a beautiful skyline view. Carter also envisioned a transportation system from Houston Heights to Houston, and drew investors with arrangements for utilities, streets, parks, and schools.
A commercial strip was set at 19th and Ashland, plus a grand hotel (later destroyed in a fire). All of the work Carter put in is still easily seen in today’s Houston Heights. Currently standing are a group of grand Victorian homes along Heights Boulevard. Today, Houston Heights is a community that emphasizes philanthropy and community involvement. They have the Art on the Boulevard project, Candlelight Dinner and Auction, Spring Tour, Picnic in the Park, the yearly Fun Run, Bike Rally, and a group Holiday Party, plus an annual Volunteer Appreciation & Awards Dinner, just to celebrate those who put Houston Heights first. It is because of this close-knit community’s friendliness that Davis Law Group loves serving this area so much. We at Davis Law are proud to stand by the people of Houston Heights, supporting them through some of life’s most difficult challenges.
